The new 48,500-square-foot Center for Dialysis Care (CDC) Cleveland East facility is the flagship location for this regional care provider. The design utilizes the individual patient treatment space as a building block for the facility, informing both the plan layout and the building enclosure.
Clusters of individual treatment spaces are oriented around shared support spaces to maximize staff efficiency and access to patients. To enhance patient comfort during long treatments, the design of treatment areas addresses patient temperature sensitivity and provides access to daylight.
The lobby was approached as an extension of the patient module footprint and then rotated away from the primary vehicular site entry to provide an ample entry and drop-off. The gesture also accommodates an outdoor seating space intended to serve as an extension of the lobby.
Bright yellow-green horizontal louvers on the exterior designate pedestrian entry points. In the lobby, an illuminated and textured feature wall serves as a backdrop for an open stair. The second floor Dr. DeOreo Education Center is anchored by a large, multipurpose classroom that can be subdivided into four smaller classrooms. A training room, educator workspaces, conference rooms, and meeting spaces were integrated to meet staff needs.
