University Hospitals Seidman Cancer Center opened in 2011 on the hospital’s main campus at University Circle in Cleveland. The 120-bed hospital consolidated all of University Hospitals’ cancer services under one roof.
Perspectus was selected to design the build-out of the existing shell space on the 7th floor of Seidman Tower to accommodate 30 new, private universal patient rooms along with associated support spaces.
The unit is initially being utilized as a Heart Failure ICU and MICU with long-term plans to serve as an adult Oncology floor. Visibility of the patient and proximity of the nurse stations to the patients were major design focuses. Perspectus produced 3D images to show staff views into the room.
Although constraints of existing conditions and future use required the toilet room to be inboard, the angled toilet room wall allows staff to monitor patients and vitals from the corridor.
Nurse stations are divided throughout the core to create several hubs or touch down areas to keep staff as close as possible to their patients at all times.
