The first floor and basement interior renovations and new construction – totaling 275,000 square feet – features a new “Main Street” devised to link primary components together in a clear and logical manner.
The objective was to backfill areas being relocated due to expansion and to consolidate services from another local VA facility. The project requires extensive knowledge of the existing facilities and how current and future departmental needs may affect adjacent facilities and service to the public.
The new cafeteria is a food court concept with multiple food types and vendors, and the dining / seating area includes four layers of seating with options for individuals and groups.
The decor is distinguished by dramatic curves topped with a new clerestory roof filling the space with an abundance of natural light. The storefront is reminiscent of a sidewalk cafe restaurant along an urban street.
